Basics: The Elements
First set of readings are on the Four Elements: Please first read this general overview from the Flying the Hedge website which is an excellent overview of the Element as we see them. There are a lot of links at the bottom to continue reading on the Elements, tools and rituals to connect with each. Please read those on your own time if/when you have a chance
After reading the overview, please look over these four short essays on each Element. For some of you, this may be review, but it's always good to review. Please note these essays come from a Wiccan source, which is in no way bad, but Wicca is a specific magickal and religious path, so it's written for people in Wicca.
After reading these, please take some time to reflect, and then leave a comment response on what you learned, what might be review, and what connections to the Elements you can find in your life and working. There are no right answers here, this is to help us all expand our knowledge and intuitive selves.
Thanks!

I found the essays on the elements fascinating. A good deal of it I already knew from my past readings of occult literature (including from various supernatural RPs I've participated in). But there was new information as well as some that I'd forgotten. I tend to find myself most drawn to the Spirit, or Aether, element. (I'm familiar with the term Akasha, too, but I tend more toward Aether as the most relatable synonym to Spirit. It connects to the electrical theory of the universe, in which it is electricity, not gravity, that holds everything together, with the aether, not the theorized dark matter, existing as the medium through which it travels. I find this a more compelling theory than what is currently accepted by science.) I find myself drawn to spirt as it represents a unity in which all the elements come together and influence one's concepts in one way or another. As I often don't like to be tied down to just one thing. :) If I needed to pick one of the four, I'd probably tend toward water, having been born under the sign of Cancer, but mainly for its characteristics of the emotional, intuitive, empathic, and psychic. Although I find the need to hide it sometimes, I can be very emotional, and have deep-run feelings. I've also been known to make intuitive leaps that have proven correct. And I often receive information on an empathic level, in feelings and impressions rather than in words. (Odd, perhaps, for an English major. :) ) I identify its feminine aspect, too, as it can at times be difficult for me to understand the male perspective. And yet, there are aspects of the other three elements that I find myself identifying with as well. the creative aspects of air, the transformative ones of fire, and the groundedness of earth. (Even if some of these might seem contradictory. The all come together in a unity that is best exemplified as Spirt/Aether. At least to my mind.
